In December 2023, the Government of British Columbia introduced a series of reforms, which includes creating designated TOD Areas to combat the high traffic congestions. As much as 52-Transit Oriented Area (TOA) maps have been determined in British Columbia, with 29 within the Vancouver boundaries alone. According to Journal of Commerce, the transportation ministry has made property acquisitions nearby transit sites in Port Moody in late 2023 and another in early 2024.
This year in July, Justin Trudeau the Canadian Prime Minister announced the Canada Public Transit fund, a CAD $30 billion investment to expand the public transit in the next 10-years. According to Canada.ca, the Canadian government, finalized the new Canada Community-Building Fund agreement. Local governments will be receiving CAD $1.6 billion in the next 5 years, of which CAD $825 million will fund the public transit provider TransLink. In April 2024, TransLink introduced the Bus Priority Vision plan with the goal to enhance transit efficiency and reliability.
